Pureview Technology & the future or mobile cameras

Lumia 1020 is out and it is an amazing device. Basically it is nothing more than the bullet proof Lumia 920, refined and enlightened with an incredible new 41 Mégapixels camera sensor. This sensor is a new version of what Nokia call “Pureview” technology and it includes an Optical Image Stabilization to how hand shakes affects photos and videos. It works incredibly well as it did in Lumia 920 / 925 / 928 before. What the Lumia 10-20 adds is a unique ability to zoom 3x in your pictures with no loss of quality.

Benefits of the 41mpx image sensor

Why to include such huge sensor on a phone? The answer is simple and in 2 steps:

    • It allows you to zoom without any cumbersome physical “zoom” like what Samsung did with the ugly Galaxy Zoom.
    • It is a large sensor and let lot more light to flow inside its photosites than any usual sensor. This realy matters. It simply means that even if you take a 5mpx photo out of this great 41mpx sensor, it will be better than photos taken by 5-8mpx conventionnal sensors you have on iPhone 5/5c/5s, Galaxy S4 or HTC One.

This simple idea of including such brilliant piece of Imaging technology Inside our photos is probably the most important innovation since Digital Camera started to spread everywhere. It is THAT important. Because this is the first time an efficient solution breaks the need of enormous camera lens that everyone though of primary need to a great picture quality. Nokia and Zeiss way to include huge sensor in small devices is probably the path every other makers will take in the near future.

With my Lumia 10-20 I have a digital camera always with me without having to carry anything else than my phone, which was simply not possible before.

Lumia 800 White is glossy and almost in our hands

Here we are folks, the already famous Nokia Lumia 800 White is official. It is still made of a single piece of polycarbonate, but this time Nokia decided it had to be glossy to really shine in every hands.
    It looks incredibly tasteful!

A post from Nokia Conversation about designing the white version of the Lumia 800

By the way : does these colors tell you something? CMYK color model!
We have now a white, a black, a cyan and a magenta Lumia 800…

Will Nokia announce a Lumia 800 Yellow in a near future?

Nokia Lumia 800 Cyan : the world’s most gorgeous phone

I finally got one, and it wasn’t easy!
Here it is, my little Lumia 800 Cyan unboxing review.

This phone design is really stunning, a class of its own. It is way more subtle than you would imagine, with lot of different volumes.
The cyan and magenta colors are the perfect answer to all these boring black/grey/white smart phones. Put this one on a table with the iPhone 4S, the plastically Nexus Galaxy/SIIs and a couple of HTCs, everyone will look at the Lumia.
Nokia trully masters phone design more than anyone else.

The box, classy and way smaller than usual Nokia offering.

Once you open it you discover the Lumia 800 waiting for you on the top of the content.

Lumia 800, product documents, included (almost) matching color soft-case, earphones, Micro-USB cable and the power supply.

The same guys, out of the box.

The earphones, which equals the iPhone ones in terms of …low quality! Only one button to answer phone calls, no volume controls.

    The 1A power supply.

The left side : no buttons here.

The top : µSIM card slot and the hidden µUSB slot, plus the earphones plug.
Here you can see the small magnet that locks the µUSB door.

The right side : camera 2-steps shutter, power and volume buttons.

The bottom : nicely designed speaker grid.

Here we are, welcome on Lumia board!

I hope you enjoyed the pictures.

Windows Phone attacks – Act II

Lot of Nokia Lumia 800 ads in France, it’s impressive ! It is the first time I see mode ads for a different phone than the iPhone 🙂 And I like Nokia campaign, it’s refreshing. What matters is that finally people start to hear about Windows Phone, and a great Windows Phone device. Nokia did a great job but I say more, I have to wait to recieve my Lumia 800 Cyan for the review. It should be there the second week of december.

Microsoft and Nokia are doing some crazy things. Remember the 10 meters tall Windows Phone in NYC  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nunL6ghJZnQ&feature=player_embedded) ?
It is coming in Paris, and will be installed on the famous “Champs Elysées” avenue between the 9th and 18th of december !

deadmau5 takes over London, for one night only – don’t miss out

To celebrate the launch of the Nokia Lumia 800 we’re hosting a multimedia extravaganza on 28 November. Join us as deadmau5 rocks the London skyline in 4D.

Joel Zimmerman (AKA deadmau5) will be performing two new tracks created especially to accompany a stunning 4D projection display against the backdrop of the 120-metre Millbank Tower on the banks of the River Thames. This amazing, one-off gig is not to be missed, so if you’re anywhere near London, be sure to come along to see it live, or visit our Facebook page to watch the live stream.

They say it’s going to be epic, and looking at the teaser it may very well be !
